Though BMW is currently in the process of transitioning to an all-electric lineup within the next dozen or so years, the company nonetheless hasn’t shied away from investing ample resources into its final gas and hybrid models — as evidenced by the release of the all-new BMW XM hybrid SUV.
The XM is kicked along by a 4.4-liter BMW M TwinPower (twin-turbocharged) V8 engine that’s been paired with a high-performance electric motor. Good for 644hp and 590ft-lbs of toruqe — all of which is sent to the ground through BMW’s intelligent M xDrive system — the XM’s hybrid powertrain’s horsepower and torque outputs makes it the most powerful SUV ever produced by BMW. The hybrid engine can also deliver an all-electric range of just shy of 59 miles. Offered exclusively as a hybrid model, the XM also marks the first-ever addition of an electrified vehicle to the BMW M portfolio.
Riding on 23” M wheels, the BMW XM sports an ultra-sleek exterior with sharp arches, and an aggressive oversized, and thoroughly modern take on the Bavarian brand’s classic kidney grille design. The new luxury SUV has also been bestowed with laser-etched Roundels — a nod to the original M1. Taking inspiration from boutique lounges, the interior of the XM also features a carbon trim package, a massive central curved display running the latest version of the BMW iDrive 8 Operating System, vintage brown leather accents on the dash and doors, and an M-specific digital driver’s display.
Scheduled to go on sale in April of 2023, the 2023 BMW XM will start at $159,000.
