The race to make the most superior electric vehicles is on. With the electrification of cars in full swing, every automaker on the planet is pouring its resources into making the highest-performing, most sustainable EV they can make. While most would assume a titanic automaker such as Toyota, Ferrari, or Ford would make a record-breaking hypercar, they would be overlooking the small, scrappy startups who are setting their sights on disrupting the automotive industry. One of those startups is Vazirani Automotive, an Indian company that just built a concept car that they claim is the lightest EV on the planet.
Vazirani is no stranger to manufacturing high-performance vehicles. The Indian automaker created their country’s first hypercar, the Shul, in 2018. However, their latest EV, the Ekonk, aims to set the standard even higher. As far as specifications are concerned, the Ekonk is spectacular, with an output of 722 hp and a blistering 0-62 time of just 2.54 seconds. This speed, if accurate, makes it far and away India’s fastest car, and one of the fastest accelerating cars from any country. Though its speed is something to marvel at, what’s most incredible about the Ekonk is its construction and engineering. Vazirani was able to make an electric battery that cools itself without using liquid cooling. Dubbed DiCo, this new technology utilizes nanoparticle technology to mimic the cooling mechanisms animals use to maintain their temperature regulation. As Vazirani puts it, the Ekonk is the first car in the world that “breathes.” This technology greatly enhances the battery’s performance while keeping the weight of the battery to a minimum. The result of this minimized weight is a hypercar that clocks in at an ultra-lean 738 kg (1,627 pounds), giving the Ekonk a power-to-weight ratio of nearly 1:1, which would make it one of the most powerful cars made in India.
Of course, the fact that the Ekonk is a one-seater that’s made entirely out of carbon fiber absolutely helps keep its weight down. Vazirani still hasn’t released the rest of the Ekonk’s specs, but the India-based automaker claims that it has a low drag coefficient. The company hasn’t confirmed whether or not the concept car will eventually enter production, but the Ekonk’s technology is certainly intriguing.
