With fast-moving innovation taking place at all hours in the automotive space, industry titans like Ford, Toyota, BMW, and Volkswagen are constantly upping the ante in terms of technology and performance capabilities, making their cars more and more futuristic as the days pass. That said, there are some brands in existence that aim to keep it classic when creating their cars. Morgan Motor Company in particular has made an iconic reputation for its classic-looking automobiles. Its latest bespoke offering, the Plus 8 GTR, not only keeps its classic design language alive but also exists as the British automaker’s most powerful car yet.
From an aesthetic perspective, the striking Plus 8 GTR build evokes feelings of classic automotive design, paying homage to prominent nineties Plus 8 race car ‘Big Blue.’ Unlike many cars that make it to production, the Plus 8 GTR retained its principle design from the original design sketches that were unveiled earlier this year. The Plus 8 GTR explores design themes such as the high shoulder line, which hasn’t been featured in Morgan bodies for decades. Moreover, it sports five-spoke center-lock wheels that the Morgan designers were able to frame perfectly by re-sculpting the wheel arches. Its exterior boasts a glorious Yas Marina Blue finish, which offers a playful and modern contrast to the classic, race-inspired features like its aluminum revised rear end, front wings, and front splitter. In its interior, the Plus 8 GTR sports new door cards to fit with the high door tops, bespoke GTR dials, and optional carbon fiber racing seats and harnesses.
Performance upgrades include a new engine tune and cannon-style twin-exit sport exhausts. These enhancements improve throttle response and increase the power output over the previous production Plus 8’s V8 engine to 375HP, making it the most powerful Morgan in the automaker’s storied history. Morgan Motor Company is limiting the production of the Plus 8 GTR to only nine units and has yet to announce pricing information or a release window.
