BMW-based “Flying Brick” projects are a dime a dozen, with countless examples having been turned into stripped-down cafe racers. As such, it’s become exceedingly difficult to deliver a genuinly novel take on the popular donor platform, yet that’s nonetheless what MOTOISM has managed to achieve with its latest one-off work, a BMW K100 known simply as “The Ultimate K.”
Starting out as a 1983 example, the K100 has been stripped down to the frame, being rid of its subframe and suite of bodywork — save for its knee-dented tank. Despite primarily consisting of only a few modifications, the build is incredibly transformative, with an unmistakably sleek and modern appearance that’s owed to a custom LED-backlit acrylic taillight, a “Control Panel” headlight shroud with a recessed space for a Motogadget Motoscope Mini, and a set of backlit aerodynamic winglets that have been laser-cut from acrylic glass.
Born out of a collaboration between MOTOISM and fellow custom moto shop IMPULS, the Flying Brick has also been treated to numerous smaller additions such as bespoke black and white Roundels, Motogadget grips, a custom LED-equipped top triple, and a new blacked-out exhaust system. The build’s suspension has also been upgraded, with the front end having been lowered and fitted with new springs while the aft-end of the bike has been gifted a custom Öhlins mono-shock. The project’s finishing touch would come in the form of an Alpine White livery contrasted via hand-laid red pinstriping. Alongside the bike itself, MOTOISM has also partnered with VOR Shoes to create a custom pair of kicks with a color scheme that matches the cafe’d BMW.
While The Ultimate K By MOTOISM x IMPULS isn’t for sale, the former shop is selling each component that comprises the project, either a la cart or as a whole.
