Few modern-day automobiles have garnered the type of legendary status of the Ford GT. A homage to the GT40, which won the Le Mans four years in a row in the ‘60s, the heritage car debuted in 2004 and concluded its 4,000-unit run in 2006. Honoring the 50th anniversary of the unprecedented 1966 victory where the GT40 finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, the GT came back for a second generation beginning with the 2016 model year, seeing around 1,300 examples in total upon wrapping its final production this past year.

Now with its first iteration of the sports car, LEGO has unveiled the 2022 Ford GT, a 1,466-piece set as part of its Technic series. On a 1:12 scale, the new build features a dark blue exterior with white stripes, real working doors, independent suspension, an adjustable spoiler, front-axle steering, headlight details, and a hood that opens up to reveal the V6 engine with moving pistons.

Blurring the line between scale models and real-life mechanics, the LEGO Technic line was one of the first forms of immersive brick building upon its debut over 45 years ago. Stretching 15” long, this Ford GT model is one of several Technic builds recently announced, including the NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 and Batman’s Batcycle.
