The same gaming company that physically brought Mario Kart to your living room is now doing the same for Hot Wheels. Working alongside Mattel, Velen Studios’ Hot Wheels Rift Rally brings together RC model cars and AR video games for a match made in big kids’ heaven.
Playable game modes include Campaign and Stunt, which would be pretty self-explanatory if not for the fact you have to make these tracks yourself. In Campaign Mode, players can set up obstacles and small gates around the playing area to have their car drive traditionally through various maps within the game. On the other hand, Stunt Mode offers a much more extreme alternative, allowing you to drift and burn out until you reach a new high score. To no surprise, the game features seamless online playability, allowing you to play with your other grown-up friends who’ve also set up an RC track in their home — by all means, there is nothing wrong with that.
And while the package itself obviously only comes equipped with a single car, it can appear on screen as up to 22 different models. That said, the packaged model is aptly named the “Chameleon” and has a 1080p camera mounted on top of it. For hardcore collectors, there where will be a special edition bundle that comes with a die-cast McLaren Hot Wheels car and an in-game code to unlock the McLaren Senna.
Hot Wheels Rift Rally will be available starting March 14 for PS4, PS5, and iPhone. In the meantime, you can pre-order the bundle starting from $130.
