Few brands have rewritten a category as thoroughly as YETI, and watching its rise over the past two decades has been something to behold. Since the Seiders brothers built the first grizzly-proof Tundra back in 2006, that overbuilt reputation has carried the brand into just about every corner of the outdoors, and the Roadie line is where all of that toughness gets packed down into something you can actually carry around.
That brings us to the newest and smallest member of the family. The Roadie 8 is the most affordable hard cooler YETI has ever made, a personal-sized box clearly built for the back of a golf cart rather than the bed of a truck. We were fortunate enough to get hands-on with the Roadie 8 for the past week, so we did the only responsible thing with it: we loaded it up with cold drinks and took it out for 18 holes.

Tundra Toughness, Sized Way Down
The Roadie 8 might be small, but YETI didn’t cut any of the corners that made its bigger coolers famous. RockSolid construction makes it virtually indestructible, and the brand’s PermaFrost pressure-injected insulation keeps everything inside locked at that just-packed temperature. We had zero issues keeping our brews cold on the course.

The sealing system is where the cold-holding really earns its keep. A ColdLock gasket and Interlock lid press together into a form-fitting barrier against the heat, while the NeverFail two-pin hinge handles the open-and-close abuse without complaint.
The cooler weighs just under 8 pounds (7.9 to be exact), which made it super convenient to grab and shuffle around. It’s also tough enough to double as a seat when you need one, which we appreciated more than we’d like to admit, especially when we took the party to the parking lot.

One Hand Is All It Takes
The headline feature here is the SmallHaul handle, a solid hard-sided grip that replaces the soft straps found on the Roadie 15 and 24. The thinking is simple: no straps to fuss with, no decisions to make, just grab it and go. We found it comfortable to carry even with a full load swinging from one arm.
Now, the single QuickLatch is the real standout. Where the bigger Roadies use two latches, the 8 opens with one large latch you can pop with a single hand, which no other hard cooler in YETI’s catalog can claim.
Flanking the handle are AnchorPoint tie-down slots, letting you strap the cooler down to a golf cart, ATV, kayak, or truck bed so it stays put on rough rides. The handle even comes off with an Allen key if you’d rather run the DoubleDuty shoulder strap, sold separately for $30.

Eighteen Holes With the Roadie 8
To put it through its paces, we packed the Roadie 8 with half a dozen drinks and a YETI ice pack and brought it along for a full round. It slid neatly into the storage section of the golf cart and rode there between holes, sitting close enough that we could flip the lid and grab a cold one without ever pulling the cooler out.

That access is where the single QuickLatch really came in clutch. Popping the lid one-handed took zero effort, even with a putter in the other hand, and the BearFoot non-slip feet kept the cooler from sliding around whether it was wedged in the cart or set down on the fringe.

A quick note worth mentioning: there’s no drain plug here, but at this size it was a non-issue for us. Tipping out a little meltwater took us all of two seconds. The 12-can ceiling means this is certainly a single-day companion rather than a weekend hauler, and once you factor in room for ice, 8 drinks felt like the sweet stop (especially while golfing), which we’d argue is exactly the point.

Verdict: Our First Impressions
Unsurprisingly, We came away pretty impressed by how much YETI engineered into such a tiny package. The Roadie 8 isn’t trying to be the cooler that handles your camping trip or your tailgate – they’ve got plenty of those. It’s the compact cooler you’ll actually reach for on a daily basis. It’s light enough to carry without thinking, but because it’s a YETI, it’s tough enough to take the abuse. We own (and have tested) plenty of YETI coolers in our day – and this feels just as durable and hard wearing as any other Roadie. It’s just much smaller. For golf carts, job sites, day hikes, and even as a larger lunch box, we can see this quickly becoming a favorite for us.
Priced at $165, the Roadie 8 is officially YETI’s most affordable hard cooler to date. It’s available now for account holders with free early access, with the full rollout arriving June 9. You can grab one in a range of colorways (we’re partial to the Tan we tested here on the course), directly from YETI’s website.

The Roadie 8 is the rare YETI small enough to live in your trunk, your cart, or your lunch rotation, and tough enough to outlast all three.
