A Force Recon Marine Designed Ka-Bar’s One-Piece Forged Fixed Blade to Carry Like a Folder

Allen Elishewitz might have one of the wildest resumes in the knife world. The man is a former Force Recon Marine, a lifelong martial artist, a practicing watchmaker, and one of the custom makers who kickstarted the tactical folder movement back in the ’90s through collaborations like the Benchmade Stryker.

So it feels a little ironic that his newest knife isn’t a folder. In fact, it has no moving parts at all. Meet the Ka-Bar Elishewitz Pocket Tool, or EPT for short.

Forged Like Something Off a Workbench

The EPT slots into Ka-Bar’s growing family of drop-forged, USA-made knives, and joins oddballs like the Forged Wrench Knife and Les George’s Roscoe. Like its siblings, the entire knife (blade, handle, finger ring, and all) is forged from a single piece of 425 high carbon stainless steel.

With its raised “KA-BAR OLEAN NY” lettering stamped into the handle, it feels much more akin to something you’d find in a toolbox rather than your more traditional EDC tools. And that’s not a bad thing by any means.

Now, 425HC at 56-58 HRC isn’t going to win any edge retention contests, especially against today’s super steel landscape. But the 2.5″ drop point blade is still tough as nails, and can be easily sharpened in minutes.

The Fixed Blade That Thinks It’s a Folder

The EPT ships with a reversible, loop-over wire pocket clip. It’s a feature you almost never see on a fixed blade, and the whole point is to let the sheathed blade ride in your pockets just like your favorite folder.

And when you need it, that forged finger ring makes retrieval nearly instant. At 3.2 oz with a lanyard hole on both knife and sheath, it can also easily convert to neck knife if that’s more your speed.
