YETI has been on quite a tear this year so far. The brand who all but owned the water bottle and cooler categories decided it needed more to conquer when it debuted its first-ever whiskey flask and French press coffee maker. Hyperbole aside, these weren’t the first times that YETI has expanded its range into new territory but previous expansions were a bit more utilitarian — camping chairs, gear cases, backpacks — while the former felt a bit more fun and frivolous. However, its voyage into the world of camp cookware blends a little of both.
In June 2023, YETI partnered with Butter Pat on an heirloom-quality 12-inch cast iron skillet. Fast forward to January of this year and YETI actually acquired the boutique Maryland-based cast iron cookware outfit. Now, we finally get to see the fruits of their labor with an inaugural release.

Proven Methods
YETI hasn’t changed much in terms of production. Available in 8”, 10”, and 12” sizes, these cast-iron skillets, like the ones from Butter Pat, are still made right here in the USA — more specifically, Wisconsin — where they’re smoothed down by cast during a process that takes weeks. The company seems to be taking lots of notes from Butter Pat, whose founder Dennis Powell borrowed vintage casting methods from old 19th-century guides.

Making a Better Skillet
Spacious and relatively lightweight compared to the competition, each pan is “thick only where it needs to be” for better mobility and is designed for a balanced, even cook. They’re also built with two pouring spouts and an ergonomic handle that agrees with the natural angle of your arm when cooking. The handles are also hollow in the middle to cut weight like the originals. So that it’s suited for camping along with indoor use, YETI made them a little longer to help you avoid open flames when camping.
Featuring a naturally non-stick barrier, each pan is also pre-seasoned with grapeseed oil and beeswax for flavor. The YETI branding is also displayed very largly on the bottom of the skillets.

Pricing & Availability
It’s also important to note that while last year’s YETI x Butter Pat 12-inch skillet collab had a sticker price of $400, this new permanent range is remarkably more affordable. Priced at $150, $200, and $250, depending on which size you get, the Cast Iron Skillet is currently available from YETI’s website.
