When Porsche unveiled their rooftop tent back in 2022, it took the world by surprise. Few thought that a brand already pushing the bounds of what a sportscar could do had it in them to enhance the experience even further. A rooftop tent has its own level of versatility, allowing you to see the world from higher up while also evading pesky camping annoyances such as bugs and moisture.
Now, the German marque has introduced its second chapter, so to speak, with the Canopy Tent, giving you the ultimate glamping experience right from the back of your Taycan. Let’s take a look…
The Purpose of the Canopy Tent
While the Porsche Roof Tent emphasized compact convenience, the Canopy Tent is a lesson in luxury. This won’t be exclusive to wilderness or desert exploring, aiming to provide shelter literally wherever you go, even if you stay right at home. Porsche’s press release wants you to know that it can act as “free-standing weather protection on the beach, a cozy lounge at the campsite, or a practical secluded spot in the garden.” It’s also quite large with a 7.5ft x 7.5ft floor area. Less for sleeping and more for hanging out, the Canopy Tent is more of a supplement to the Roof Tent.
Porsche Canopy Tent Basics
Just like the Roof Tent, the Canopy Tent can be used with the 911, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, and Taycan models, whether or not there’s a roof rail installed. Designed by Austrian-based Studio F.A. Porsche, the tent sports a black and gray colorway that complements your Porsche vehicle well as it sits out the back.
Weighing 26.5lbs, the four-sided unit can stand alone apart from your vehicle or can be an extension of your tailgate with a weatherproof connecting tunnel. The four sides open up for a panoramic view or you can configure it to your liking by closing the side panels, one of which has a transparent plastic window and attachable privacy screen. There’s also a floor cover with Velcro fasteners in case you find yourself on hot sand or wet grass.
Included with a small hand pump, the tent can inflate in just a few minutes thanks to a central valve, after which it can be anchored to the ground with storm-resistant fasteners equipped with reflective belts.
You can also make the tent your own with a plethora of ad-ons like a heated blanket, a shoe organizer, and even an inner tent made with quilted double-layered insulation for colder adventures. And if the $1,680 price tag isn’t too much for you, you can get two or more of these to make your own little Canopy Tent village. Porsche is also pushing its outdoor accessories alongside the Canopy Tent, such as their speakers and water bottles.
