When German-based company HEIMPLANET first envisioned its tent of the future nearly 20 years ago, it had no idea how much camping gear would continue to evolve over time. Since launching its first inflatable tent, the Cave, back in 2011, HEIMPLANET has continued to release new and innovative products that reflect society’s growing enthusiasm for the outdoors.
With its latest upgrade of the Cave, HEIMPLANET has partnered with Icelandic outerwear company 66°North for the Cave XL, a four-season tent that’s made to last you through any condition. Thoroughly tested through extreme winds and blizzards on the Icelandic tundra, the tent is constructed with durable, double-layer ripstop polyester materials that 66°North is known for using in its jackets, and sports HEIMPLANET’s famed ten-point geodesic design for amazing stability.
Like HEIMPLANET’s existing Cave tent, this upgrade features an easy setup, using a unique air-filled frame that inflates in just 60 seconds via hand pump. Yet, compared to the 51.7 square feet of the previous model’s floor space, the Cave XL increases to 58.1 square feet, with plenty of space for three people inside. In addition to its unmatched utility, the Cave XL possesses an evocative aesthetic with its geometric dome structure and bright orange coloring, which is inspired by Icelandic rescue shelters and also echoes the molten underbelly of the volcanic nation of Iceland.
Easy and efficient, the Cave XL is Icelandic- and German-built but functions as a necessary addition to any camping trip no matter where you traverse. Offering a more freeing way to camp, the Cave XL is available on both HEIMPLANET and 66°North’s online stores for €990 (~$1,100).
