For over 80 years, Gerber has built its name on delivering fairly-priced gear that’s tough, well-crafted, and reliable enough to trust with your life. For proof of this, look no further than the PDX outfit’s latest release, the Gerber Center-Drive Rescue Multi-Tool — a pocketable 14-function powerhouse that’s made right here in the USA.

Building on the foundation previously laid by Gerber’s existing Center-Drive multi-tool, the new Rescue-spec features an impressive suite of tools and functions including spring-loaded needle-nose pliers with Gerber’s X-Channel rail system, rotatable carbide wire cutters and strippers, a full-size 2.5″ partially serrated sheepsfoot blade, a pry bar with an integrated nail puller and bottle opener, an awl, and a file. Just like with its predecessor, a massive part of what makes this multi-tool so special is its magnetic 3.2″ center-axis bit driver — though it also boasts an included bit set with a dozen of the most commonly-used/needed bits and sizes. Another major highlight on the Center-Drive Rescue is its unique one-handed opening system, which allows any of its bevy of tools to be deployed with a single hand.

Separating the new Rescue-specific model from older versions of the Center-Drive multi-tool is this new variant’s included emergency strap cutter. Borrowing a design from Gerber’s standalone strap-cutter, this fold-out multi-tool element can also be opened and deployed using one hand. In total, the thing packs a whopping 14 tools and functions, making it one of the most utilitarian everyday carry items, pound-for-pound. Weighing in at 9.5oz, the tool spans just 4.7” when closed, and just 6.6” when open. Considering its price, this multi-tool also affords pretty tremendous bang-for-your-buck. Offered with a MOLLE-compatible, Berry-compliant sheath, this multi-tool is also made in America and backed by a lifetime warranty.
