Though the company currently boasts an expansive and eclectic catalog of boots, shoes, and sandals, Danner’s most iconic piece of footwear is undoubtedly the Oregon-based outfit’s Mountain 600 model. And with the Mountain 600 continuing to be a best seller for the brand, it’s now opted to look to the future while keeping one foot firmly planted in the past with the release of the first-ever version of the Mountain 600 that’s fully recraftable.

Christened the Mountain 600 Leaf GTX, these new boots are crafted around a set of full-grain leather uppers with GORE-TEX liners that are waterproof, breathable, and composed of 45% recycled content. Inside, the boots boast removable OrthoLite ECO footbeds with three layers of varying density. These eco-friendly items are composed of a combination of recycled rubber and Bio-Oil that together afford solid heat dissipation as well as air circulation. A rubberized EVA-equipped Vibram SPE midsole has also been stacked atop an ultra-grippy Vibram Fuga outsole that features self-adapting lugs and a specially formulated Megagrip compound that provides stellar traction across a myriad of surface and terrain types.

Weighing in at 2.25lbs per pair, the Leaf GTX-spec Mountain 600 boots also come outfitted with a collar and liner made entirely from recycled textiles. Rounding out the boots are a nylon shank and a TPU heel frame. What really makes these particular hiking boots stand out, however, is the fact that they are the first-ever Mountain 600s that can be re-crafted or reconditioned by the Danner Recrafting team, which can replace individual components as needed at the factory, practically guaranteeing a lifetime of use — and making for a markedly more eco-friendly product.

Available for order online and in-stores now in three different color ways, the Danner Mountain 600 Leaf GTX has been priced at $220.
