Hands-On: CamelBak’s A.T.P. Goes From The Office to the Trails with Ease

While mastery in a particular area is quite impressive when it comes to backpacks, a bag that’s versatile is far more valued. After all, more specialization also means you’ll need more packs to take up space in your home. And having to sift through a hiking bag just to find your portable charger or sunscreen to throw in your travel bag puts you at risk of forgetting something else. 

Plenty of backpacks come in and out of our office but few have been as impressive as CamelBak’s A.T.P. 20, a lightweight, do-anything bag that can easily accompany you on the trail while transitioning perfectly to the office the next day.

A.T.P. stands for “Adventure Travel Pack,” which briefly and perfectly sums up all this bag can do. Capable of holding 20L of gear, this version weighs around 2.4lbs and features plenty of compartments inside and out for ultimate organization and accessibility. The inside includes a removable laptop sleeve and a few other compartments, while the outside has several pockets specifically designed for a water bottle, a 3L water reservoir, and a pair of sunglasses. An additional side pocket comes with some organizational segments and a built-in key clip. For even more range, the bag features several Hypalon lashing points, deployable straps, and a luggage pass-through option. 

Made from recycled car airbags, this undyed A.T.P. is CamelBak’s most sustainable pack yet, which allows the user to connect with nature even more. As the first pack to earn the brand’s Platinum Badget in terms of sustainability, its body, bottom, and liner are made of 100% recycled 210D CORDURA re/cor nylon, sourced from post-industrial car airbags. CORDURA is already an incredibly lightweight and abrasion-resistant material and one of the strongest fabrics you can find. As a nice touch, the materials are broken down for you clear as day on the inside of the bag.

From a comfort level, we were able to wear the A.T.P. all day with ease. It feels firm and ventilated against the back and we loved how the supportive sternum strap could be used at several positions. Easy to trek to and from the office, the bag’s zippered laptop sleeve is great for commuting but also removable when you want to head out hiking on the weekends. The pouch can fit any laptop up to 15” and has an additional zippered pocket for tech gear and smaller chargers.

We also liked how the 20L pack is expandable for bigger trips or can be compressed when going out for a quicker jaunt. The quartet of deployable straps (which can be tucked away if unwanted) are nice for keeping your pack compressed, but serve a dual purpose when you don’t want to accidentally open the bag up more than required. Likewise, the optional water bottle compartment on the side can be virtually non-existent if you’re not carrying a flask at all. In other words, the A.T.P. essential transforms itself from a hiking pack to a travel companion with ease — or you can find some middle ground between the two. 

Other pockets include the internal sleeve, an internal zippered compartment on the lid, and an additional small zippered compartment which is great for organizing smaller gear and accessories. The shoulder straps have plenty of attachment webbing, as does the small left-side pocket. The aforementioned small external zip pocket designed for sunglasses features a soft lining for protection.
