Revolutionizing the outdoor and hunting knife industry in 1964, Buck debuted its 110 Folding Hunter, which is now arguably the most famous pocket blade ever. It was designed by Al Buck and has since been made in nearly every iteration imaginable, from upgraded blade steels to unique handle materials.

Last year, the 110 celebrated its 60th anniversary with a special-edition version featuring CPM-made S30V steel. Well, for this month’s Buck of the Month release, the 110 gets yet a couple more toughness upgrades but without losing the essence of what makes the folder so special.

January 2025 Buck of the Month 110 Folding Hunter Basics

Retaining the specs of the classic 110 Folding Hunter, the January 2025 Buck of the Month edition still sports a 3.75-inch clip point blade with a nail notch, an alloy liner, and brass bolsters in the handle, but there’s more to it this time around.

While the standard 110 will give you an impressive 420HC blade steel, it won’t be your go-to for every outdoor task. However, for this new release, Buck decided to bolster the blade yet again with a CPM S35VN steel. Easier to sharpen than even the similar S30V, the S35VN is also a bit tougher. The blade has also been heat-treated for testing.

Along with the steel upgrade, Buck has also leveled up the handle for more durability as well. Although we love the classic ebony handle of the 110, we can’t complain about this new Richlite handle, which has been contoured and machine-textured to improve grip. A paper-based composite material, Richlite is just sturdier compared to ebony wood — a necessity considering all that the blade can do now.

Keeping Buck’s famous “Forever Warranty,” the January 2025 110 Folding Hunter comes with a certificate of authenticity to prove it was handcrafted at the company’s factory in Post Falls, Idaho. The knife comes with a distressed brown leather sheath made right here in the USA as well.

What We Think

Again, we can’t overemphasize how simple yet important these upgrades are when it comes to the 110. The folding knife retains its classic design but justifies a new edition that can do a whole lot more in the wilderness. You could easily carry both this version of the 110 and the classic $65 model on your next outing and be able to delineate tasks based on the knives’ capabilities. And unlike the 60th Anniversary release from last year, which was priced at $200, the Buck of the Month iteration drops the tag down to an accessible $165. We also noticed the new edition is a bit lighter in weight than the original, at just 6.4oz (down from 7.2oz).
