Having started by providing sturdy garments for fisherman and gold miners in 1897, the humble clothier is acknowledging its 125th anniversary with an archival reissue of a plaid-clad Mackinaw Wool Cruiser.
This iconic piece of outerwear remains one of Filson’s most notable, as the brand itself claims it “rapidly became one of the most-imitated jackets on the market.” While the Mackinaw Wool Cruiser was patented in 1914, it was worn before that by foresters and timber cruisers, which ultimately gave the jacket its name. History-aside, the jacket remains remarkably notable and equally warm, as it’s constructed using wool courtesy of Pendleton, another Pacific Northwest-bred staple.
Moreover, this material has a particularly tight weave that deems this jacket both wind-resistant and impressively breathable. On top of that, it can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water, making it ideal when heading into treacherous forecasts. Its color palette consists of blue, black, and white, which the brand dubs Cobalt Patchwork. As far as functionality goes, the durable piece features adjustable cuffs, a quartet of snap-flap pockets, two hand pockets, an interior compartment, and a map pocket across the entire back.
