Famously associated with some of the most legendary endurance racers of all time, the Gulf Oil scheme is one of the most iconic race liveries in history, having famously adorned the bodywork of game-changing cars like the Ford GT40, McLaren M20, and Porsche 917. Synonymous with the golden age of motorsport, this combination of 3707 Zenith Blue and 3957 Tangerine has become instantly recognizable since first appearing on a race car in the 1960s, though this colorway has also been adopted by a host of additional products and companies when looking to imbue an item with an unmistakably motorsport-inspired feel. Below, we’ve curated a selection of some of our favorite offerings decked out in this iconic colorway in this everyday carry spread we’ve fittingly titled “Gulf.”
Tactile Turn GT Click Pen
Taking its name from one of the most celebrated cars ever to wear the famous Gulf livery — Ford’s GT40 —the GT Pen is a limited-edition, seasonal release from the Texas-based machine shop and one-man-operation that is Tactile Turn. Sold with a commemorative card, this side click pen features a titanium body and pocket clip that are fortified via blue and orange Cerakote finishes and juxtaposed with white Cerakoted hardware. Produced in Standard (5.8″), Short (5.3″), and Mini (4.6″) sizes, this EDC pen also comes decorated in the buyer’s choice of engraved racing number (or “GT” script).
Autodromo Autostrada Folio
Though Autodromo is undeniably best-known for its vintage-style car-themed watches, the Brooklyn-based brand also produces an equally impressive range of accompanying motorsport-inspired accessories such as its Autostrada Folio. Designed to accommodate a trio of Autodromo’s smaller Autostrada key wallets, the folio has a double opening — with a magnet-secured outer jacket concealing an inner snap-secured layer — that lifts to reveal three separate sections that can each fit a key organizer or wallet, a regular car key, or even most fobs. In typical Autodromo fashion, this item is made from decidedly high-end materials and boasts an unmistakably high level of fit and finish, having been handcrafted in Italy using premium pig leather that’s been treated with a vintage-style period finish.
Gentle Monster Momati BC1
A fashion-forward and top-shelf take on a traditional pair of Wayfarers, Gentle Monster’s Momati BC1 sunglasses are comprised of a 146.1mm square acetate frame that accommodates a pair of 99.9% UV-protected gradient lenses. And, with an orange-gradient-colored set of lenses housed in a transparent light blue frame, these glasses just happen to perfectly jive with the legendary Gulf Oil race livery. What’s more, in addition to being sold with an ultra-premium leather case, each unit also comes from Gentle Monster in gift wrapping decorated with a special bow. Also equipped with contoured temples and Gentle Monster branding, these glasses are sold in a total of five color options.
TAG Heuer Monaco x Gulf
Famously worn by Steve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans, the Heuer Monaco is one of the most famous motorsport-themed watches ever, adorning the wrists of several generations of gearheads and wheelmen. Constructed around a square 39mm brushed and polished steel case, this chronograph is kept ticking via the in-house Calibre 11 automatic movement. This special-edition version of the popular timepiece sports a dial decorated with a Gulf Oil logo and a pair of the company’s classic blue and orange racing stripes, as well as a dark blue leather strap with contrasting orange stitching and a polished steel folding clasp.
