Koenigsegg Pays Homage to the CC8 with a Modern Take on the Hypercar

It was two decades ago that Swedish hypercar brand Koenigsegg debuted its game-changing CC8 model. And with the CC8 now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Koenigsegg has opted to mark the occasion via the release of a modern take on the hypercar known as the CC850.

Billed by Koenigsegg as “the fastest and most powerful manual production car in the world,” the CC850 looks incredibly similar to the original CC8, at least on the surface, however, underneath its all-carbon fiber bodywork lies a completely revised interior and a thoroughly modern powertrain and running gear package. This includes a massaged version of the Jesko’s twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8, which is now good for 1,385hp and 1,022ft-lbs of torque — figures made all the more impressive by its 3,053-lb curb weight.

The engine has been paired with a modified version of the Jesko’s nine-speed Light Speed Transmission. Operated via a traditional clutch and gated six-speed stickshift, this gearbox is known as the TWMPAFMPC transmission — short for “The Worlds Most Powerful And Fastest Manual Production Car.” Like the CC8 from 20 years ago, the new iteration of the hypercar retains it predecessor’s road-legal status, too. Koenigsegg has also unsurprisingly opted to debut the CC850 at Monterey Car Week.

Though Koenigsegg has yet to reveal performance figures, we do know the CC850 will be limited to just 50 units worldwide — a nod to founder Christian von Koenigsegg’s 50th birthday.
