It has been just shy of half a century since one of the most monumental events in human history: the moon landing. As a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s first steps on the lunar surface, Budweiser has dug up a recipe from their archives — one from the time of the Apollo missions — and used it to brew a new limited-edition Discovery Reserve American Red Lager.

A fitting tribute to American and human ingenuity and strength of spirit, this special beer is brewed by Budweiser brewmaster and former U.S. Air Force Captain, Karissa Norrington. The recipe consists of medium-roast Voyager barley malt and is said to have a light and crisp aroma of hops, a toasty flavor with just a touch of toffee, and a sharp finish. Alongside the fact that this lager represents an incredible human achievement, Budweiser has also partnered with Folds of Honor — donating a dollar for every case sold to help support those who have dedicated their lives to serving our country. With special branding and graphics meant to represent the Apollo 11 mission, the beer is said to be available through September or for as long as supplies last.
