In recent years, few companies have been in and out of the news more than Tesla, whether or not its divisive CEO Elon Musk is part of the story. From updates on its still-yet-to-be-released Cybertruck to the remarkable way in which it’s aimed (and partially succeeded) to change the landscape of sustainability in automobiles and the like, the Texas-based firm doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. And its latest release showcases the brand’s ambitions far beyond the realm of transportation.
Upon opening a couple of years back, Tesla’s now-successful Gigafactory in Berlin came with a promise from Musk of an upcoming beer release. However, there was not much more info than that and it was unclear just how serious Musk was with his announcement. Following the release of its quick-selling tequila (which actually began as an April Fool’s Joke), Tesla is back with another endeavor in the world of alcoholic beverages as it debuts GigaBier, a pilsner-style brew made in Berlin using the brand’s own Cyberhops. Tasting notes include citrus, bergamot, and sweet fruit.
Now, let’s talk for a moment about the bottle itself, which might just be the most noteworthy aspect of this release (other than the fact that a tech company has actually crafted a beer). Sporting an angular shape and sleek glossy black exterior, the 330mL bottles are designed to look like one of Tesla’s Cybertrucks, which now has more items inspired by it than it does actual production models. (Other products in the past have included a wireless desktop charging platform and a stainless steel whistle.) The bottle also features a glow-in-the-dark watermark of the word “GiGA.”
As for the price, the beer will come in 3-packs for €89 — or around $97 — which, at around $32 per bottle, is a lot for an 11-ounce beverage. Although, GigaBier seems to be billed as more of a collector’s item, or even an alcoholic novelty. If you want to try it for yourself, head over to Tesla’s website now.
