In the span of a single week, Tudor’s dropped two carbon fiber chronographs that have watch enthusiasts doing double-takes at their feeds. First came the F1-inspired Black Bay Chrono “Carbon 25,” and now we’ve got this beauty – a cycling-specific limited edition that celebrates one of professional cycling’s most iconic symbols: the Maglia Rosa. It’s enough to make you wonder if Tudor’s stockpiling carbon fiber in the basement of their Geneva headquarters.

The Maglia Rosa: More Than Just a Pretty Color

For those who aren’t steeped in cycling culture, the Maglia Rosa (literally “pink jersey” in Italian) is cycling royalty. Since 1909, the leader of the Giro d’Italia – one of the three Grand Tours and arguably the most beautiful bike race in the world – has worn this distinctive pink jersey. Winning it means you’ve conquered what’s essentially the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest six times, given the race’s cumulative elevation gain. When Tudor became the Official Timekeeper of the Giro d’Italia, creating a watch that honors this tradition wasn’t just appropriate – it was inevitable.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Tudor has gone pink for the Giro. Last year, they created a one-off pink Pelagos FXD Chrono specifically for winner Tadej Pogačar. Now, 300 lucky collectors get their own slice of that victory.

Built for the Bike, Worn on the Wrist

The Pelagos FXD Chrono “Pink” builds on Tudor’s cycling-specific platform that debuted with the “Cycling Edition” last year. At its core, this is still a 43mm carbon composite case designed to withstand the rigors of professional cycling – lightweight enough not to slow you down, tough enough to survive three weeks of racing through Italian mountains and cobbled streets.

What makes this more than just a colorway swap is the attention to cycling-specific details. The tachymeter scale spirals around the dial in a layout that’s calibrated for cycling speeds rather than motorsport. While a traditional tachymeter might be optimized for calculating speeds well above 100 mph, this one focuses on the 25-40 mph range where elite cyclists actually operate. It’s a subtle but meaningful adaptation that shows Tudor was thinking about actual use rather than just aesthetics.

The case construction combines carbon composite with titanium elements – the screw-down crown and chronograph pushers are both titanium, providing necessary durability at critical stress points. At 13.2mm thick, it maintains a relatively slim profile despite packing a full chronograph movement.

Pink Accents, Black Attitude

Tudor has shown admirable restraint with the pink colorway. Rather than creating a Pepto-Bismol special, they’ve applied strategic touches of pink to the tachymeter scale and within the chronograph subdials. The hash marks inside both the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock registers feature pink details that complement the cycling-focused aesthetic without overwhelming the matte black dial.

The single-piece fabric strap gets the same treatment – black with a pink stripe running down the center that echoes the dial accents. It’s sporty without being gaudy, and it comes with an extra Tudor Pro Cycling Team strap keeper for that authentic paddock vibe. The snowflake hands, filled with Grade X1 Super-LumiNova, ensure visibility during those early morning training rides or late-stage finishes.

The Heart of a Racer

Under the lightweight exterior beats Tudor’s Manufacture Calibre MT5813, the same movement powering the brand’s other chronographs. Based on the Breitling B01 architecture but modified by Tudor, it features a column wheel and vertical clutch – the hallmarks of a proper chronograph.

The movement runs at 28,800 bph (4 Hz), offers approximately 70 hours of power reserve, and comes with COSC certification. The silicon hairspring provides additional resistance to magnetism and temperature variations – important when you’re grinding up a mountain pass in the scorching Italian sun or descending at 50+ mph through Alpine switchbacks.

What we particularly appreciate is the 45-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. While most racing chrono counters are calibrated for the 30-minute marks common in motorsport, cycling stages often require timing longer intervals, making this 45-minute register more practical for actual use.

Limited Numbers, Lasting Appeal

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of this release is its ultra-limited nature. At just 300 pieces, the Pelagos FXD Chrono “Pink” represents one of the smallest production runs Tudor has ever done. Each watch is individually numbered on the caseback, which also features an engraving of three cyclists.

At $5,600, it costs the same as the standard “Cycling Edition” Pelagos FXD Chrono, making this more of a colorway celebration than a premium upcharge. When you consider that many cycling-themed watches from other brands command significantly higher prices for limited editions, Tudor’s restraint here is refreshing.
