Seiko Drenched Its Flagship Marinemaster in Limited Edition Mangrove Green

Seiko’s Save the Ocean editions usually look the part, and are mostly covered in icy blues and wave-textured dials that channel that open water vibe. For the latest one, the brand decided to swim towards the shoreline instead. Seiko found inspiration in the mangrove forests that spring up where rivers run into the sea, sheltering entire coastal ecosystems in the process. And the canvas this time isn’t some mid-catalog Turtle or Samurai either.

This time around, Seiko went full force with the Marinemaster. This is the most serious dive watch Seiko makes, but now dressed in green as the Prospex Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Save the Ocean Limited Edition HBF003J1.

Into the Mangroves

The deep green sunray dial is the headline act for this diver, while a pink-gold seconds hand sweeps overhead like sun hitting the canopy. It’s definitely a warmer look than we’re used to seeing on a tool watch.

Seiko kept the ceramic bezel insert black rather than matching it to the dial, and that two-tone restraint is what really sells the whole thing. The Save the Ocean badge is more than just marketing too, and the program’s whole goal is to fund marine conservation efforts like PADI’s Dive Against Debris cleanup initiative.

Built on 1968 Bones

Now, about that “1968 Heritage” bit. This case shape descends from the 6159-7001, Seiko’s first 300m diver and an engineering flex that paired a one-piece monocoque case with a hi-beat movement borrowed from Grand Seiko.

The modern version holds up its end of the bargain. The 42.6mm stainless steel case carries the same 300m rating, and inside beats the Caliber 8L45, the best mechanical caliber in Seiko’s stable short of a Grand Seiko. It’s good for 72 hours of reserve and a tight +10 to -5 seconds per day.

The Clasp Deserves Its Flowers

Hidden in the bracelet is one of our favorite features in modern watchmaking, a slide-adjust clasp offering 16mm of tool-free sizing in 2mm steps.

That kind of everyday practicality is exactly why this generation of Marinemaster has been winning people over since the HBF001 arrived earlier this year. And the green suit is probably the prettiest version we’ve seen yet.
