Even if you’ve never read a single Peanuts comic strip, you’re likely familiar with the likes of Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, and Snoopy. Since debuting in 1950, Charles Schulz’s iconic characters have transcended their original medium to become embedded in our zeitgeist, continuing to prove their indelibility with TV specials, feature films, theme parks, and even apparel. They’ve even reached the watch world with the likes of OMEGA’s coveted Speedmaster Snoopy editions. However, those pieces are usually difficult to obtain and cost thousands of dollars. Luckily, Seiko has just made it significantly easier to put our favorite beagle on our wrists with its new duo of timepieces.
Sporting Snoopy in black-and-white form as he originally appeared in the comic strips, the Japanese brand’s new 5 Sports watches coincide with the 55th anniversary of the popular entry-level watch line. The release consists of the SRPK25, a 38mm diver styled after the extinct SKX line, and the SRPK27, a simple 38.4mm field watch. Each one features Snoopy on the dial in a different scene — the first as he’s peeking out from behind a surfboard and the second as he’s using his ears to propel through the air helicopter-style with his best friend Woodstock (colored in yellow). The casebacks each play out their respective scenes with the dog riding a wave and Woodstock parachuting down from the sky.
Both timepieces sport stainless steel cases and a playful “Schulz” font for the numerals — on the bezel of the SRPK25 and hour markers of the SRPK27. They’re also paired with a gray-and-white NATO strap and black leather band, respectively, and are powered by Caliber 4R36 automatic movements. Snoopy’s pawprint can also be seen on the crown.
While the new 5 Sports watches are still limited in edition size, their prices will be quite affordable when they finally get released in June. Limited to 8,900 and 6,500 pieces, respectively, the SRPK25 and SRPK27 will retail for $425 and $400.
