It’s not often that Rolex adds a brand-new watch to its legendary catalog. However, in 2008, the Swiss icon introduced the newest member of its Sea-Dweller family: the Deepsea dive watch. Mostly a showcase piece displaying what the brand could actually achieve on the engineering side of things, the Deepsea looked mostly like a Submariner — aka the most iconic dive watch in existence — but it has preposterous capabilities thanks to being the largest watch the brand had ever produced. Waterproof to a whopping 3,900m, which is much deeper than any actual solo diver would be able to reach, the Deepsea was wide, thick, and only available in Oystersteel — until today. For Watches and Wonders in Geneva, Rolex has brought yellow gold to the fray with its latest Deepsea iteration.

Playing off the similarly-styled Submariner, the gold and blue Deepsea is a sight to behold. With the same specs as a standard Deepsea — 44mm wide, 17mm thick, and with a 5.5mm-thick sapphire crystal — the watch sports an 18k gold case with an RLX titanium caseback. Affixed with an 18k gold bracelet to match, it’s powered by the in-house Caliber 3235 automatic movement with 70 hours of power reserve. Yellow gold has always been an awesome pairing with blue, and this timepiece is no different, with the latter all over the dial and the ceramic bezel, accented with gold gilt as well.

Along with its case and crystal dimensions, the Deepsea has always gotten its impressive depth rating numbers from its Ringlock System case architecture and helium escape valve. This time around, that Ringlock System and compression ring are made from ceramic, which goes well with the aesthetic of the watch.
