Oris Turns the Year of the Horse Into a Complication-Filled Limited-Edition Office Watch

Each year, the watch industry (and everyone else too) experiences a surge in releases to honor the Chinese Calendar, but we’re rather selective of which ones we actually cover on our site. That said, Oris has debuted one of the most stunning examples we’ve seen, with a truly inspired homage to 2026’s Year of the Horse, and it’s far from kitschy.

Resurrection of a Complication-Rich Classic

The Year of the Fire Horse Limited Edition marks the return of Oris’s Calibre 113 movement, which first appeared back in 2017 in the brand’s Artelier lineup before being discontinued. For those unfamiliar, this hand-wound caliber is the fourth in Oris’s modern series of in-house movements — building on the groundbreaking Calibre 110 from 2014 that revived full in-house production after decades.

The 113 stands out with its massive 10-day power reserve from a single oversized barrel, but it’s the business calendar complication that really defines it. Beyond standard hours and minutes, you get the day, date, month, and even the week number via a scale running around the dial’s periphery. It’s an old-fashioned, office-oriented feature that holds a surprising amount of charm and utility, especially for anyone who needs a visual reference for where they are in the year.

The movement also features Oris’s patented non-linear power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, managed by a worm gear that controls how the indicator moves around the dial. For this Fire Horse edition, Oris has added a whimsical galloping horse at the top of the power reserve to display indicates a full tank, while a resting horse at the bottom signals it’s time to wind.

Bold Aesthetic Choices

The 43mm stainless steel case houses a stunning deep burgundy dial. But it’s the two gradient subdials at 9 and 3 o’clock — transitioning from a lighter center to an almost wine-dark perimeter — that steal the show. They’ve been given a grained texture that creates an almost glowing effect, like embers burning beneath the surface. The gold-plated hands, applied indices, and Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 help give the watch a dressed-up aesthetic. There’s also Super-LumiNova on the hands, and both domed sapphire crystals (front and caseback) feature anti-reflective coating.

The watch sits on a dark brown shell cordovan strap (horsehide, naturally) with a stainless steel deployant clasp. At 13.1mm thick with a 50mm lug-to-lug measurement, this is far from a subtle piece.
