Each year, the watch industry gets its fair share of “summer” watches, with vibrant, colorful dials, often on some sort of tropic-style rubber strap. However, what about autumn watches? That was Oris’ plight too when they came up with the idea for their latest Big Crown Pointer Date variant, featuring a warm orange dial and a handsome brown leather strap that will go perfectly with your upcoming holiday festivities.

The Autumn Statement

The Big Crown Pointer Date has been in continuous production since 1938 — a feat almost unheard of in the mechanical watch world. Originally designed for aviators who needed that oversized crown to operate the watch while wearing gloves in freezing cockpits, the model became Oris’ anchor through the quartz crisis and remains a cornerstone of their aviation collection today. This new collaboration with Cervo Volante leans hard into the watch’s vintage DNA while adding a seasonal twist that feels fresh.

The gradient dial transitions from burnt orange at the center to a deeper, richer red toward the edges, mimicking the color shift you’d see on Alpine maple leaves. The cathedral hands and Arabic numerals — including that distinctively shaped “4” at the bottom of the dial — get coated in Super-LumiNova, while the pointer date hand sports a forest green tip that nods to the sustainable deer leather strap.

Hide and Sleek

Speaking of the strap, Cervo Volante has been working with Oris for years now. They transform deer hides that would otherwise be discarded into high-quality leather goods. Around 15,000 red deer are culled annually for Switzerland’s wildlife management program, and Cervo Volante ensures those hides don’t go to waste. The mahogany brown strap features vegetable tanning processes that preserve the leather’s natural grain and imperfections, giving each piece a unique character.

The watch itself sits in the typical 40mm stainless steel case with that classic coin-edge bezel that didn’t appear on the original 1938 model but has become synonymous with the vintage-inspired Big Crown Pointer Date lineup. At 12.2mm thick and with a 48.2mm lug-to-lug measurement, this watch has comofortable proportions. Inside, the Oris Calibre 754 — a modified Sellita SW200-1 with pointer date complication and that signature red rotor — provides 41 hours of power reserve.
