Oris has been making pilot’s watches since 1938, when the brand introduced its first Big Crown model with an oversized crown designed for gloved pilots. That original watch established the DNA that would carry through to the ProPilot line introduced in 2014 — a modern interpretation that kept the legible Arabic numerals and functional focus while adding contemporary touches like the turbine-inspired bezel. Now, the ProPilot Date gets a considered update that sharpens the design without losing what made it work in the first place.

A Case of Refinement
The new ProPilot Date keeps its 41mm stainless steel case diameter but with tauter lines and sharper edges that give the watch a more dynamic presence. Satin-brushed surfaces dominate the lugs and case body, contrasted by polished flanks that catch the light. The signature angled bezel fluting remains, maintaining that visual connection to jet engine turbines, though Oris has refined the angle and finish to look more engineered than decorative. The oversized screw-in crown has been reprofiled for better grip, and the case now wraps the wrist with improved ergonomics. These are all little tweaks that add up to a watch that wears better than before. At 11.7mm thick with a 49mm lug-to-lug, it’s also proportioned exceptionally well.

Texture and Depth
The biggest visual shift comes from the new dial treatment. Oris introduced a subtle, natural texture pattern across three colorways — black, chalk, and moss — that reduces glare and gives the dial an instrument-like quality. Applied brushed Arabic numerals sit on the surface, while a raised outer ring with a revised minute track tidies up the layout. The date window moved to 6 o’clock for better balance, and the lume-tipped sword hands were redesigned with more metal and less lume for a cleaner look. Red accents hit the black dial, with orange accents on the chalk and moss versions.

Movement and Practicality
Inside, the ProPilot Date runs on Oris Calibre 733, an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW200. It’s the same caliber used across Oris’s dive watch collections and is highly dependable and serviceable, with 41 hours of power reserve, instantaneous date, and a date corrector. The watch comes on either a multi-piece stainless steel bracelet with Oris’s updated LIFT folding clasp (now chamfered to match the case lines) or a suede leather strap with a seamless fit adjustment system.
