With an illustrious history dating back nearly 120 years, it’s frankly unsurprising that the Oris brand and many of its watches, though undeniably modern in many ways, are also deeply rooted in the past. And such is the case with the Hölstein outs its latest horological release, the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chrongraph 40mm.

The Divers Sixty-Five Chrongraph 40mm is an updated version of a vintage-inspired diver that first broke cover in 2019. Despite utilizing the same blueprint and overall design, a few major tweaks have been made that collectively give the new 40-mil model a markedly more modern feel to it. For starters, the 43mm-wide, 16mm-thick thick case of the original 2019 chronograph watch has been resized at 40mm and 15.4mm, respectively. Deviating from the ultra-retro motif of the 2019 reference’s bronze accents and gilded dial, the new version of the watch now sports a super clean black dial and bezel insert contrasted via white applied indices and markers, a white hand-set, and white text — all but the latter of which have been hit with a generous coat of Super-LumiNova paint.

Keeping the thing ticking is the Swiss brand’s Caliber 771 movement. Beating at 4Hz, this automatic motor features a 27-jewel setup and a 48-hour power reserve. Paired with the buyer’s choice of either a Cervo Volante deer leather strap or a brushed steel bracelet with faux rivets, the case also features a water resistance rating of 100 meters. Despite the changes to the 2019 model only being some small adjustments in size and a new colorway, these tweaks collectively manage to massively alter the appearance and character of the watch.

The Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chrongraph 40mm (Ref: 01 771 7791 4054-07 6 20 01)is available now, with pricing set at $4,200 for the leather strap-equipped verdant and $4,400 for the version with the steel bracelet.
