Omega Breaks 31 Years of Bond Protocol and Builds a Seamaster for the Villains

The James Bond franchise is in a bit of a limbo at the moment. Amazon MGM has Denis Villeneuve in the director’s chair and a script in the works, but five years after Daniel Craig’s final outing, nobody has been handed the Walther. Omega, Bond’s watchmaker since GoldenEye in 1995, decided they weren’t going to be waiting on casting news. On Global James Bond Day, the brand rolled out six new watches, and for the first time in 31 years, it cut the opposition in on the deal. Say hello to the Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond and Spectre Collection.

Outfitting the Opposition

The James Bond model feels right at home, with a blue aluminum dial wearing laser-engraved waves straight out of the Brosnan era alongside a grade 5 titanium bezel ring, and Bond’s family coat of arms worked into the 12 o’clock marker. Flip it over and a rhodium-plated gun-barrel rotor spins behind the sapphire caseback.

The Spectre edition is definitely the one nobody saw coming. It features a grained black dial, matching black ceramic bezel, and no Spectre branding on the front side. Instead, the blackened octopus rotor hides on the caseback, which is a nice touch for a secretive crime syndicate.

Same Hardware, Different Teams

While they might look the same on the surface, both watches are still the same proven diver underneath it all. Each watch features a 42mm stainless steel case, 300 meters of water resistance, and a helium escape valve. You also get the beloved brushed mesh bracelet that first appeared on the No Time to Die edition on both versions.

Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 runs the show. It’s METAS-certified, good for 55 hours of reserve, and shrugs off magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.

Platinum for the Evil-Lair Budget

Then there are the limited edition sets, 77 apiece for each side. Every box pairs a numbered steel model with a platinum-gold version you can’t buy on its own, sporting a polished ceramic bezel with a platinum diving scale and an 18k white gold dial in a smoked gradient PVD. Bond gets a gun-barrel swirl, Spectre gets creeping tentacles, and both rotors are finished in 18K Moonshine Gold.

At over 200 grams, the platinum pieces weigh nearly half a pound on the wrist. Each set also packs cufflinks, a cord bracelet, a NATO strap, a loupe, and a leather travel pouch.
