Amidst a watch industry dominated by heritage brands, Nixon decided to open up shop in the late-’90s from its home in southern California. Initially wowing athletes with its sports-focused timepieces, the company eventually broadened its range to include everyday watches and even some dress watches, and without all the upcharge you’ll see elsewhere. Nixon’s newest addition to its range is the Fremont 40, a versatile model that’s been thoughtfully designed and won’t break the bank.

Housed in a 40mm stainless steel case, the Fremont 40 features what the brand calls a “squircle” shape, which is essentially a rounded square that nearly looks circular. It’s available in three different colorways, each depending on your specific needs. While all three would be perfect for day-to-day wear, the gold-plated option is great for weddings, nice dinners, and even office attire. EDC enthusiasts will dig the blacked-out variant, with touches of color on the blue and gold indices, as well as the gold handset. Finally, a silver-plated option is our pick for frequent travellers and might be the most versatile of the bunch.

Even though they look stunning with their more refined aesthetic, all three are perfect for adventurous lifestyles as well. The watch boasts 100m of water resistance and even has a hardened mineral crystal over the dial for durability. Inside, the Fremont 40 is powered by a Japanese-made Miyota 2035 quartz movement, which are inherently a bit tougher than their mechanical counterparts.

Giving the everyday watch an industrial edge, the round dial features a black chain-link pattern that truly brings dimension to the watch. It’s surrounded by a minute track and outer hour ring with applied indices for the even markers and Arabic numerals for the odds. Lastly, each model is adorned with a three-link steel bracelet matching the color of its case, featuring a quick-adjust system that allows you to fine-tune the sizing without any tools.

Priced at $200, the Fremont 40 is available now from Nixon’s website, and is eligible for free shipping.
