When Maurice Lacroix first debuted its AIKON model back in 2016 — a reinterpretation of its own Calypso from the ‘90s — the watch drew instant comparisons to Audemars Piguet’s highly-coveted (and highly-priced) Royal Oak. Since then, the AIKON has become the Swiss-based company’s most popular model, a beautiful entry-level timepiece for those looking to build up their luxury collections without sacrificing the perception of high value on their wrists.
Now, Maurice Lacroix has unveiled another gem with a skeletonized version of the AIKON, housed in a 39mm stainless steel case. This is definitely not the brand’s first skeletonized piece, but the smaller case size allows it to be more accessible when comparing it to the 43, 44, and 45mm skeletonized versions of its other models.
Even more interesting here is that the watchmaker has partnered with elite manufacturer Sellita for a brand new movement, the Automatic ML115 (base SW200), which is constructed in a way so that light passes through various parts and illuminates others. The overall design is inspired by urban architecture, as seen in the sandblasted and brushed decoration, as well as the circular graining and colimaçon.
Since its beginnings in the 1970s, Maurice Lacroix has come to be synonymous with affordability despite luxurious designs. The AIKON’s latest skeletonized variant is no different. The AIKON Automatic Skeleton is water-resistant up to 200m and comes with a stainless steel bracelet. It’s currently available through Maurice Lacroix’s online store for $3,450.
