Hamilton’s Intra-Matic line is nothing but a paragon of mid-century elegance. Born in the late ’60s, the dress watch line was eventually revived in 2012 as a time-only watch. Five years later, the watchmaker decided to add a chronograph version, inspired by their Chronograph A and B models from 1968.

Perhaps still an unsung range from the brand’s catalog, the Intra-Matic Chronograph is now getting a trio of vintage-inspired models, driving home just how cool these timepieces actually are.

Racing Heritage in Fresh Colors

While Hamilton is known for its incomparable Khaki Field Watch and its legacy on the Silver Screen, it certainly has history on the race track as well. Taking cues from the golden age of motorsports — think late ’60s and early ’70s — these new references lean into the era when Hamilton was developing the Calibre 11, one of the first automatic chronograph movements. The three new dial options (Hunter Green, Warm Brown, and Blue) each feature a gradient effect that darkens toward the outer edges, emphasizing the domed sapphire crystal while keeping things period-correct.

The blue version stands out with its punchy orange chronograph hands, while the brown and green variants use cream-colored accents with beige Super-LumiNova. All three sport white subdials and tachymeter scales for optimal legibility.

Under the Hood

Under the solid steel caseback sits Hamilton’s Calibre H-51, a hand-wound chronograph based on the Valjoux 7753 and developed by ETA, but with the additon of a Nivachron balance spring. Running at 28,800 vph with a 60-hour power reserve, it ditches the date complication to keep the dial clean.

The case sits at a well-proportioned 40mm diameter along with a 14.35mm thickness. Made of polished stainless steel, it features period-correct pump-style pushers and a knurled crown, paired with faceted lugs and a sloping bezel. Lastly, each watch comes with a perforated racing-style nubuck leather strap to match the dial, plus a stainless steel mesh bracelet with a folding clasp.
