Grand Seiko’s Tentagraph Chronograph Radiates in Rose Gold for the First Time

Grand Seiko debuted its first fully mechanical chronograph just two years ago, but not without plenty of fanfare as one of the most technically impressive sports watches to emerge from Japan. Today, that timepiece gets its most stunning upgrade yet by introducing precious metal accents for the first time in the collection’s brief but notable history.

Dawn Breaks Over Familiar Territory

As you can see, the Tentagraph SLGC006 has added 18k rose gold elements throughout the 43.2mm high-intensity titanium case. For starters, the bezel frame, crown, and chronograph pushers all receive the warm metal treatment, along with applied hour markers and hands that echo the “copper-pink” dial color inspired by Mt. Iwate bathed in morning sunlight. Additionally, the running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock now appears in a golden copper tone, contrasting with the darker burgundy used for the 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers at 3 and 6 o’clock respectively.

However, calling the SLGC006 a true two-tone watch feels somewhat generous. While the rose gold accents provide visual warmth that complements the dial’s striking radial texture, the high-intensity titanium bracelet remains entirely devoid of precious metal save for what’s presumably a small “GS” medallion on the clasp. This isn’t a complaint though since relegating the rose gold to the case and dial only amplifies them more.

Same Mechanical Brilliance

Powering the sunrise-themed Tentagraph is the same Hi-Beat Caliber 9SC5 automatic chronograph that has impressed since the collection’s debut. Running at 36,000vph with a column wheel and vertical clutch architecture, the movement delivers exceptional accuracy of -3/+5 seconds per day while maintaining a 72-hour power reserve.

If you’re not already familiar, Grand Seiko achieves this impressive endurance by employing dual barrels paired with their advanced Dual Impulse Escapement — technology that allows the high-frequency movement to run longer than most 5Hz chronographs on the market.
