By now, we’ve seen plenty of watch/automotive partnerships, but the one between Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin has always felt different, ever since it commenced in 2021. What started as a Formula One sponsorship deal has produced a series of remarkable releases. And their latest Laureato Skeleton Aston Martin Edition shows just how comfortable both brands have become working together.

More Than Stealth Mode
Black ceramic has become the default material for brands trying to seem more stealthy, but the Laureato Skeleton Aston Martin Edition uses it to frame the movement inside. And for the task, Girard-Perregaux has applied different finishing techniques across the 42mm case for subtle texture variations, including horizontal satin on the sides and circular satin on the signature octagonal bezel. Likewise, the integrated ceramic bracelet continues this theme, alternating between polished and brushed surfaces.
Yes, the ceramic material is 7x harder than steel and practically scratchproof, but the darker color here provides contrast for the movement being skeletonized underneath. The bridges, gears, and balance wheel of the in-house GP01800 automatic really pops here in its openworked state.

Mechanical Transparency
Boasting 54 hours of power reserve, the GP01800 calibre is completely exposed front and back (behind a metallized Aston Martin logo), turning the entire watch into a kinetic sculpture. Every component is visible and accounted for: the mainspring coiling and uncoiling, the balance wheel’s hypnotic oscillations at 4Hz, the pallet lever engaging with the escape wheel in perfect mechanical rhythm.
Each of the 55 internal angles is hand-finished, while the black PVD-treated bridges showcase four different techniques: bevelling, sandblasting, traits-tirés, and circular satin. Racing Green touches are given to the skeletonized hands, floating hour markers, and rotor — even the lume is tinted green — which are obvious, if not subtle, nods to Aston Martin’s heritage.
