Every new smartwatch seems hit the scene bragging about a brighter AMOLED panel while conveniently forgetting to mention the nightly charging routine that comes with it. Even Apple’s latest Ultra treats a couple of days away from the charger as a headline achievement. Garmin’s Enduro line has always marched to the beat of its own drum though, trading the pretty screen for pretty impressive battery numbers. And with ultra running participation booming, Garmin is back for round four with the all-new Enduro 4.

Charge It in October, See You in January
With its solar-harvesting Power Sapphire lens soaking up sun, the Enduro 4 is rated for up to 90 days in smartwatch mode and up to 320 hours of GPS tracking in extended battery mode.

Switch over to expedition mode with decent sunlight and Garmin’s spec sheet simply reads “unlimited.” The secret is the 1.4-inch MIP display, an intentionally old-school screen that sips power instead of chugging it.

Those solar figures do, however, assume bright 50,000-lux conditions, so winter trail runners under tree cover should plan around the non-solar ratings of 36 days and 120 hours, respectively.

A Fenix 9 Brain Transplant
It’s worth mentioning that although they are impressive, those battery ratings essentially carry over from the Enduro 3. Because the real upgrade here is actually powering the device.

The Enduro 4 inherits the Fenix 9’s updated processor, packing 50 percent more RAM, a map engine that pans 30 percent faster, and a new perspective view for scoping out the terrain ahead. Onboard storage doubles to 64GB as well.

The software follows suit with grade-adjusted pace targets, stamina zones, and Garmin Epic, which stitches multi-day efforts into one shareable story in Garmin Connect.
