When you think of the relationship between DOXA and Clive Cussler, the SUB 300T immediately comes to mind. The watchmaker has even made a couple of special-edition watches using the legendary diver as a template. But today, DOXA is reaching deeper into its catalog to honor the author on what would have been his 94th birthday. The new SUB 750T Clive Cussler marks the return of a model that quietly disappeared from production nearly a decade ago, and it arrives with some compelling updates that address the original’s most obvious downside.

Cussler and DOXA
For those unfamiliar with the backstory, Cussler’s connection to DOXA runs deeper than most brand partnerships. Back in the late 1960s, when he was working at a dive shop to support his writing ambitions, the shop owner gifted him an orange-dial SUB 300T upon his departure. That watch became his constant companion during real-world underwater explorations and strapped to the wrist of Dirk Pitt, his literary alter ego who brought DOXA’s distinctive orange dial to readers worldwide.

The Return of the 750T
The SUB 750T originally debuted in the mid-2000s as DOXA’s most capable dive watch, boasting the namesake 750m of water resistance with a robust 45mm case. But for all its technical prowess, the original was very, very thick. At nearly 14mm, it wore more like a hockey puck than a dive watch.
With this new Clive Cussler edition, DOXA has managed to slim the case down to just 11.95mm — nearly 2mm thinner than the original! That might not sound like much on paper, but on the wrist, it’s a game-changer. And all while retaining the 45mm case size.

Thoughtful Details
As you can see, the dial is classic DOXA orange with the brand’s distinctive handset optimized for underwater legibility. This is a legit dive watch after all. Tributing the real-world organization that Cussler founded, the watch features a NUMA logo at 7:30 and orange numerals on the date wheel marking July 15, 1931, the date of his birth.
On the caseback, there’s an engraved compass rose, with each cardinal point nodding to different aspects of the author-turned-explorer’s legacy (truth, mystery, discovery, and adventure). Inside, a Sellita SW300 automatic movement powers the timepiece, offering a solid 56 hours of power on tap.
Lastly, you’ll notice that signature stainless steel bracelet that blends links with beads-of-rice styles, equipped with a dive extension. And there’s also an orange NATO strap that comes with it. The whole package is presented in a commemorative box that takes inspiration from vintage exploration logbooks.
