Even though the first commercial flights began in 1914, it wasn’t until the mid-’50s that Pan Am took passengers across the Atlantic in their Boeing 707 jets, marking a pivotal moment in aviation history.

Today, watchmaker Christopher Ward has teamed up with the brand to honor the original 707, dubbed the Clipper America, with a new version of its C60 GMT timepiece.

A Dive Watch With Altitude

Christopher Ward has been refining its C60 collection since 2007, when the brand first dipped into dive watches with the quartz-powered Kingfisher. The line has since become a cornerstone of the company’s catalog and has evolved considerably. The GMT variant showed up in 2010, adding travel functionality to the C60’s proven dive watch lineage. This latest Clipper edition takes that foundation and layers on Pan Am’s storied aviation heritage.

The 42mm stainless steel case uses Christopher Ward’s Light-catcher design with its signature polished chamfers. Inside sits the Sellita SW330-2, a true GMT movement where the 24-hour hand adjusts independently for tracking time zones when traveling. Water resistance stays at 300m, maintaining the watch’s dive credentials even with all the pilot-watch aesthetics.

Airport Codes and Blue Meatballs

Where this watch deviates from standard GMT fare is the bezel. Rather than the typical 24-hour markings, Christopher Ward printed IATA airport codes representing 24 destinations from Pan Am’s network. Dallas gets a nod as both a major Pan Am hub and home to Christopher Ward’s first U.S. showroom. Key West appears in red, marking where Pan Am launched its first flight back in 1927. The blue aluminum insert pairs with a red and blue 24-hour track on the rehaut. This is a clear callback to the Rolex GMT-Master’s “Pepsi” configuration, though relocated from the bezel.

The eggshell dial sports applied markers filled with vintage-toned lume. Pan Am’s wordmark sits below center, balanced by Christopher Ward’s logo up top. The date wheel shows white numerals except for the 26th, which comes in Pan Am blue to commemorate October 26, 1958 — the day the Clipper America made its inaugural transatlantic jet crossing. Even the seconds hand’s counterweight takes the shape of a 707 aircraft. Flip it over and you’ll find Pan Am’s “Blue Meatball” logo stamped into the caseback.

Lastly, the watch comes with a Bader stainless steel bracelet, with an additional NATO-style strap inspired by Pan Am seatbelts.
