Despite what some might think these days, a rugged adventure watch doesn’t have to be built off of a dive watch platform. In fact, some of our favorite brands know this very well, from Rolex to Sinn to G-SHOCK. But one watchmaker we think doesn’t get enough credit is Christopher Ward. For over two decades now, the British firm has become very popular for how it combines tool watch ethos with both affordability and classic design cues. Now it brings an even more “Extreme” approach to a category you might not expect: GMT travel watches.

A Sealander Evolved
The C63 Sealander Extreme GMT builds on the foundation Christopher Ward established with its original Sealander GMT back in 2021. That first generation positioned itself squarely in the “land” category between the brand’s aquatic Trident divers and aeronautical offerings — watches for modern explorers who needed versatility without sacrificing style. This new Extreme iteration pushes things further with a larger 41mm case (up from 39mm), enhanced durability features, and what might be the most impressive lume application we’ve seen at this price point.

Lume Takes Center Stage
The standout feature here is the extensive use of Globolight ceramic — essentially three-dimensional blocks of luminous material rather than conventional painted lume. We’re talking 18 separate applied elements across the dial, including the indices, hands, and even the Twin Flags logo. Produced by Xenoprint just half a mile from Christopher Ward’s Biel atelier, these chunky markers add serious depth and dimension to the dial while also glowing brighter.
The fixed ceramic bezel gets the same treatment with luminous numerals, while the orange GMT hand is filled with green-glowing Super-LumiNova to distinguish it from the blue-emitting Globolight on the main timekeeping elements.

Built to Take a Hit
Christopher Ward developed a proprietary anti-shock system for this release. It’s a rubberized movement mount that works alongside the Sellita SW330-2’s Incabloc system to absorb impacts. The automatic movement essentially floats within the case, secured by a flexible ring. This is a caller-spec GMT, which means the 24-hour GMT hand is independently adjustable — ideal if you’re tracking a second time zone from a fixed location, though we’d suggest the opposite “true GMT” configuration for frequent travelers.
The fully brushed 41mm stainless steel case maintains the brand’s Light-catcher design language with all those angles and chamfers, though here everything is rendered in matte surfaces for a more tactical appearance. And you still get a solid 150m of water resistance as well.

New Strap Option
Christopher Ward also debuts its V-Strap — a two-piece Cordura option with Velcro closure available in black or orange. The watch also comes on the brand’s Bader Bracelet, a three-link brushed steel option that’s earned a solid reputation among CW enthusiasts for its screw links, quick-release system, and micro-adjustable clasp.
