Back in January, we spent a few months with the Casio Edifice EFK-100D, the brand’s first-ever crack at a mechanical watch. We walked away pretty impressed with the watch but we did have a small handful of suggestions for the brand. The lume was practically decorative, the Edifice logo was not something were fond of, and the off-the-shelf Seiko movement gave it zero technical identity. Nine months later, Casio’s follow-up tells us that somebody in Tokyo is listening. Say hello to the CMK-100, the first automatic to wear the plain Casio badge.

Titanium Without the Titanium Tax
The headline act is the case. Where the EFK made do with stainless steel (which was completely serviceable), the CMK-100 goes full titanium on the build. The case measures 38mm across, 11.4mm tall, and 44.7mm lug to lug. There’s also a hairline finish plus ion plating and a titanium carbide coating to fend off scratches.

A knurled screw-lock crown, screw-lock caseback, sapphire crystal, and 100 meters of water resistance round out the hardware. On leather, the whole watch weighs 54 grams.

It Reads Like Our Cons List
Remember those “suggestions” from our introduction here? The dial now says CASIO and Automatic with no sub-brand logo cluttering things up. The lume gets an actual fix too, with multiple stacked layers of phosphorescent paint on the raised markers and hands rather than what previously felt like a token swipe across the handset.

Even the proportions improved, shaving over a millimeter off the EFK’s 12.5mm height. Field watch styling with big Arabic numerals and a reflection-killing matte dial texture completes the glow-up, offered in black, gray, or brown, with fauxtina on the black leather model.

The Movement Casio Still Won’t Name
Unfortunately, our one standing complaint still carries over, though. Inside beats a Made-in-Japan automatic that Casio only identifies as Module 5766. It runs 21 jewels at 21,600 vph with roughly 42 hours of reserve, hacking, hand-winding, and magnetic resistance.

The quoted accuracy of -20 to +40 seconds per day is a real step up from the EFK’s spec, but the brand still won’t say whose caliber this actually is (and it certainly isn’t an in-house one). For a watch this cheap wrapped in this much titanium, we’ll have to give them a pass for now.
