Suntory Celebrates 100 Years with a Canned Highball Using Hakushu Single Malt Whisky

They say you shouldn’t mix premium spirits into cocktails. However, if a distillery decides to use its own top-shelf liquid for a ready-to-drink concoction, who’s to complain, especially if that concoction is significantly more affordable than trying the experiment yourself?

Now 100 years old, Japanese liquor giant Suntory is celebrating a big anniversary this year and we should expect to see some big releases because of it. Most recently, it announced a new Japan-only (for now) canned cocktail featuring high-end single malt from a brand that helped contribute to the rise in popularity of Japanese whisky. Hakushu is also celebrating a major milestone this year with its 50th anniversary. Since then, it’s since garnered notoriety for its smooth and smoky expressions.

Said to possess a fruity and smoky profile, Suntory’s Premium Highball Hakushu will blend Hakushu single malt with soda and perhaps some sort of lemon spirit. Highballs are extremely popular in Japan and this release will follow Suntory’s previous canned Highball, which used Kakubin whisky instead.

While the Premium Highball Hakushu is a Japan-only release, you might be able to find these cans on the secondary market following their release this June.
