When it comes to purpose-built gear, Snow Peak just does it right. The Japanese manufacturer has been making high-quality, rigorously-tested gear for over 60 years that blend both form and function with its trademark minimalistic design. In particular, Snow Peak has developed a line of vacuum-insulated containers that are lauded as some of the best on the market, the Shimo line. Now, Snow Peak looks to widen its breadth of vacuum-insulated offerings with the addition of its largest vessel yet: the Shimo Barrel.
Designed to hold a stalwart 160oz (4.7 L) of your favorite microbrew, the Shimo Barrel was designed with beer lovers in mind. Think of the Shimo Barrel as the beer drinker’s premier cooler. It was made from the concept of going to your favorite microbrewery, topping off with your favorite craft brew, and then galavanting from campsite to campsite with your favorite craft brew in tow. Its vacuum-insulated construction enables your beer to stay perfectly cold as long as possible while its handles allow you to transport it with ease. While Snow Peak hasn’t yet announced the materials they’ll be using to construct the Shimo Barrel, it can be reasonably conferred that the Shimo Barrel will feature either a stainless steel or titanium construction, as those are the primary building materials Snow Peak uses to make its famed containers. Even cooler (pun not intended), the Shimo Barrel features a one-touch dial plug, which allows the main unit to be laid sideways for installation and easy, one-handed pouring.
The idea of Snow Peak making a vacuum-insulated container that’s big enough to hold over a gallon of beer is simply awesome. While the Japanese manufacturer has yet to give a release date for the Shimo Barrel, it is slated for a 2022 release.
