Tesla Offers a Wireless Charging Platform That Can Hold Up to 3 Devices

A few years back, Apple broke the news that it was canceling its much-anticipated AirPower wireless charging mat, which would have accommodated multiple devices no matter how they were oriented. It was the first time the tech giant ever nixed already-announced hardware, but it’s since inspired others to build off of the brand’s intentions.

One such innovation comes from Tesla, who just announced its Wireless Charging Platform, a Qi-based charging mat that can handle up to three Qi-compatible devices, such as phones and earbuds, without any guesswork needed to find the sweet spot. The tech comes from FreePower (nee Aira) whose 30 Qi coils deliver 65W of total power, delivering up to 15W of charge to each unit, although that power isn’t optimized for efficiency.

Inspired by the design of Tesla’s Cybertruck, the new charging dock is built of aluminum with a surface made from premium Alcantara fabric. Likewise, the power station comes with a detachable magnetic stand that lets you change its sitting angle.

Considering the new tech and style-driven aesthetic, the Wireless Charging Platform won’t come cheap. Tesla’s shop offers it up for $300, with pre-orders being accepted for a February shipping date.
