With countless audio brands rushing to create new products to add some vintage flavor to their catalogs, Boston-based Tivoli Audio has simply given their flagship Model One BT speaker a fresh coat of paint to get the job done. Whether you’ve gone completely retro with your interior design or just want to add a splash of color to your bedroom, the new ‘70s Color Collection has five vibrant, limited-edition colorways to fit the vintage vibe.

RETRO RENAISSANCE

Wearing its inspiration on its sleeve in the best way possible, the new series from Tivoli takes the walnut cabinets and overall configuration from the radio-style Model One BT and adds one of five radiant new faceplates to the front: Poppy Red, Highlighter Yellow, Avocado Green, Golden Hour Orange, and Navy Blue. Each color gets matched on the knobs and even the metal components like the dial surround and speaker cover.

While the home speaker game has increasingly become more serious in recent years, the ‘70s Color Collection puts fun at the forefront, quite literally. Reminiscent of your parents’ old fridge or the “funky furniture” that sat in their living rooms long after they were trendy, each color will spark a different memory for those who survived the disco age. I personally love the Navy Blue colorway, which eschews the louder options for something more refined and accessible.

NOSTALGIC TECH, MODERN CONVENIENCE

While Tivoli could have gone all-in on the nostalgia, they wisely kept what works about the Model One BT. Rather than sacrificing function for form, these variants retain what fans love about the speaker since its introduction a decade and a half ago.

The Model One’s heritage dates back to 2000 when it debuted as a utilitarian AM/FM radio with design cues from the ‘50s and ‘60s. A decade later, the BT model added Bluetooth functionality while preserving the analog dials, hardwood cabinet, and favorable sound quality. If you don’t just want to stick to Bluetooth, the speakers also have a 3.5mm auxiliary input and are capable of both AM and FM radio frequencies.

With every brand focused on voice-activated or touch-button speakers, the Model One BT creates a satisfying connection to media through its tactile approach, with knobs for volume, tuning, and input mode.

The Price of Color

As for the ‘70s Color Collection, the only drawback is that it’s somehow $40 more than the standard Model One BT, which is a small upcharge for a splash of color. So if you still prefer the original with their more neutral beige, black, and silver faceplates, you’ll save some money in the process.
