From becoming the first luxury brand to sponsor an F1 car with Jo Siffert’s Ferrari in 1969 to its official partnership with the sport from ’92 to 2003 (which was reupped in 2025), TAG Heuer has always taken its role in motorsports seriously. Yes, the Swiss watchmaker has offered clocks and watches trackside and at the podium, but they’ve also done things like develop advanced timing systems to help improve split times and performance data.
Just in time for the 2026 season, TAG Heuer has now equipped its 5th-gen Connected smartwatch with some F1-specific features for a new special edition.

A Partnership Built Into the Hardware
From the original 2015 Carrera-styled debut (widely credited as the first luxury smartwatch) to the modular second gen, through successive refinements with the E4, each generation of the Connected smartwatch has gotten significantly better. The E5 is the fifth chapter, and this Formula 1 edition is its boldest move yet.
The 45mm Grade 2 titanium case arrives in black DLC with the brushed and sandblasted finish, taking an angular form, with the Carrera-esque lug shape. The pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock get accented in red lacquer. Our favorite feature, though, is the black polished ceramic bezel, with seven segments are engraved right into it (FP1, FP2, FP3, Q1, Q2, Q3, and GP) tracking every phase of a Grand Prix weekend. The TAG Heuer shield sits at 12, the F1 logo at 6.

True Companion
The 326 dpi AMOLED display is where the F1 integration really opens up. The signature “Race Track” watch face adapts to whichever Grand Prix is current or upcoming, rendering the circuit in silhouette with the country flag and race name below the digital time display. A single dot travels the track outline to mark the passing seconds. Better yet, TAG Heuer built 24 unique versions of this face, one for each race on the 2026 calendar, each with its own color palette.
The dedicated Formula 1 app gives you season standings, race schedules, and post-race results, with widgets that surface key updates without requiring you to open the app. Custom notification sounds mimic pit radio communications. Yes, you can have your watch buzz you like a call from the wall. The animated bezel markings and on-screen complications sync to highlight which phase of the race weekend you’re in, complementing those physical ceramic engravings.
One omission worth noting, however, is the bezel makes no mention of sprint races, which are now a regular fixture on the F1 calendar. Nevertheless, this is still a real companion for any F1 enthusiast.

Under the Hood
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 5100+ chipset powering the E5 is now a few years old in the silicon timeline, but it earns its keep with a respectable three-day battery life in low power mode, two days at full performance, and a fast-charge feature that delivers a full day of juice in 30 minutes. The sensor suite is comprehensive, with heart rate, blood oxygen, breathing rate, sleep tracking, barometer, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, and dual-band GNSS covering GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo. Running, cycling, swimming, hiking, and gold are all in there via TAG Heuer OS. Water resistance is the same at 50m.
For this release, two straps are included: a carbon-patterned leather piece with a rubber backing and aggressive red stitching, and a stretchy textile option with red racing stripes.
