Apple isn’t the only tech giant garnering major headlines today, as Sony has managed to take some of the spotlights for itself. The global tech brand has just unveiled the FR7, the world’s first-ever pan-tilt-zoom mirrorless camera with an interchangeable lens and PTZ robotics tech.
The state-of-the-art gadget is the newest addition to the brand’s Cinema Line, meaning it’s intended for pro-grade production like concerts, music videos, and reality shows. In other words, this model is aimed toward creatives and directors seeking high flexibility in zoom capability and remote PTZ control. Other premium elements include its native ISO range that goes as high as 409,600 and over 15 stops of dynamic range, allowing you easily to shoot in lesser lighting.
It features a back-illuminated 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with a 15+ stop latitude, which is another first for any pan tilt zoom camera. As far as shooting goes, it can capture 4K footage at as high as 120fps or 1080p resolution at 240fps, resulting in an unsaturated, professional look. Additionally, it features S-Log3 Gamma and wide S-Gamut3 colorspaces, resulting in bolstered color-grading capabilities. Lastly, it features several video inputs and outputs that deem it operable in most workplace scenarios.
Sony claims that the FR7 will release this November for roughly $9,700 — however, the FR7K, which includes the optimized lens, will be available for $12,400.
