The premier digital camera manufacturer, RED, is well known for its state-of-the-art image capture technology, making the equipment highly sought after among professionals (and well-off hobbyists). These cinema cameras, specifically those from the RAPTOR and KOMODO series, have been used in movies, music videos, and nature to capture clean footage. The KOMODO series of cameras has been especially popular in the industry and among online content creators and indie filmmakers thanks to its powerful specs and modest size. And now RED has updated the KOMODO with the KOMODO-X, featuring a new 6k global shutter sensor and a revamped body, among other improvements.
To bring the KOMODO in line with RED’s higher-end cameras (yes, it gets even higher) among the RAPTOR series, this new 19.9 MP Super 35mm global shutter CMOS sensor boasts an updated pixel design and provides 80fps in 6k and 120fps in 4k. RED assures this update will give users better detail in shadows and deeper colors, with a dynamic range of 16.5 stops. The camera is also compatible with RED’s ecosystem, including the label’s app and remote connection options.
Additionally, the compact cinema camera has been made more convenient to complement the improved quality. This improved quality can now be used in more ways with the added I/O options giving creatives easy access to monitoring and audio, as well as live-streaming (among other remote capabilities). The new locking RF mount adds to the camera’s utility with its durable design and versatility, supporting compatible equipment. An intuitive LCD touchscreen gives users quick access to image previews and personal control. Speaking of control, the tactile buttons (including the record button) can be customized at will, making for a highly personalized experience.
The RED KOMODO-X ST digital camera is available now for $9,995 through the company’s website.
