Can the most revered vintage-inspired speaker on the market get any more vintage? Well, with Marshall, anything is possible.
Three years ago, the British hi-fi brand raised eyebrows with its 3rd-gen home speaker range, which included the Acton, the Stanmore, and, all the way at the top, the Woburn. Already available in black and cream colorways, the Woburn III gets a new skin that goes toe-to-toe with the audio giant’s legendary history.

A Different Kind of Rock Star
Even if they aren’t conscious of it, anyone who’s ever been to a concert or a recording studio is undoubtedly familiar with Marshall amplifiers and speakers. The cursive logo alone may conjure up memories (hazy or otherwise) of weekends at Coachella or a night at The Roxy.
The British outfit has become a mainstay in the music industry since its launch in the early 1960s, becoming a go-to for axemen like Clapton and Hendrix. Its JTM45 speaker was instantly in-demand when it debuted in 1962, revolutionizing electric guitar amplification by handling a bigger, louder sound and becoming synonymous with rock music at the time. A few years later, after being approached by Pete Townshend and John Entwistle of The Who, Marshall developed the Stack, consisting of two stacked 4×12 speaker cabinets atop one another for an even bigger sound.
Today, it continues its perennial presence in the sphere of music and home entertainment with each new innovative release, all carrying the spirit of the models that came before them.

Brown Beauty
From a design perspective, the Woburn is about as good as you can get, even earning Marshall a Red Dot Design Award back in 2023. However, with the latest brown skin, the Woburn can now look the part in many interior setups. Retro home furnishing is cachet again but a dark black monitor (or even cream) might not blend in as well with a mahogany bar cabinet or Danish modern coffee table. Well, now it can.
Rather than the black or dark gray color used for the mesh on the previous two colorways, the brown option gets more of a copper color in front, paired with a top panel with copper hardware and matching brown knob surrounds. Like before, the brown edition utilizes PVC-free materials, vegan leather, and 70% recycled plastic.

Same Great Sound
As I mentioned, the big news with the release of the Woburn III et al in 2022 was their seamless (and updatable) Bluetooth compatibility that future-proofed the monitors while allowing them instant connectivity for streaming, even if this version still doesn’t come with Spotify or AirPlay support. However, the 3rd-gen speaker has some other things going for it as well…
Along with wireless connectivity, you can also improve your audio quality thanks to a 3.5mm aux jack or even an RCA input. Capable of serving as your makeshift soundbar as well, the monitor can also plug in via HDMI.
Speaking of sound, the superb audio comes from five amps, including two 2-inch 15W midrange drivers, two 0.75-inch 15W tweeters, and a 6-inch Class D woofer with 90W of power. For those keeping tabs, that’s 150W in total!
