Few things coincide with skate culture the way photography does. Harping on that, few brands connote the former quite like Vans, and few combat the likes of Leica from a camera standpoint, which only make it right to bring the two worlds together, entirely. In collaboration with Ray Barbee, renowned skater and photographer, the three have come together in order to put their individual stamp of approval on a Leica D-Lux 7.
While the German manufacturer’s high-end camera does not feature any new technical specifications, its cosmetic makeover garners enough spotlight here. Featuring Vans’ emblematic checkerboard pattern, it is clear where the California staple brand made its mark, going on to include their patented Vault logo on the camera’s top plate, as well. Adding to its long list of embellishments is Barbee, whose signature can also be found on the top plate, while a quote of his adorns the D-Lux 7’s petrol blue dust bag. Serving as a major inspiration through the collaboration, the quote reads, “the joy is in capturing the journey,” and with a snapper like this, it would be hard not to find joy in it. Skaters, photographers, and Californians alike can all surely find an aspect worth admiring with this latest release, and those who fall in each of those groups definitely have good reason to give this limited edition D-Lux 7 some legitimate consideration. In celebration of this joint effort, the Vans Vault has also announced their “Capturing the Journey” collection, all of which feature the adage from Barbee.
Available November 19 through Leica’s website and in-store boutiques, the Leica D-Lux 7 Vans x Roy Barbee can be yours for $1,695
