While previous Nintendo 64 owners are still begging for a remastered version of Donkey Kong 64, famed video game developer Rare Limited has put forth a new spin on an even more iconic title. In a year chock-full of classic games being remastered, arguably the most famous one is making a grand return. That’s right, GoldenEye 007 is finally coming to XBOX Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
Since the exclusive shooter shook the digital world in 1997, it has remained a tried-and-true favorite amongst the gaming community and has undoubtedly served as a template for countless titles. The remastered classic features the original campaign mode, where you can change difficulty levels and use all the original cheat codes that made the game that much more enticing — yes, this includes invincibility and paintball mode. Additionally, the beloved, four-way split-screen local multiplayer mode also returns.
To enhance the playing experience even further, it boasts an improved refresh rate and 16:9, 4K-capable resolution. From the unforgettable soundtrack or nostalgia-inducing graphics, everything to say about the award-winning adaptation has already been said, as it is often touted as one of the greatest games of all time. Having set the tone for series like Halo, Call of Duty, and virtually any popular first-person shooter, its legacy is truly inarguable.
As we mentioned, GoldenEye 007 will only be available for active XBOX Game Pass and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, and it will appear in each platform’s library starting January 27.
