When it comes to guitars, few manufacturers have garnered a following quite like Fender. Dating back to 1946, the world-renowned craftsmen have put forth axes used by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, and Kurt Cobain, as well as an endless amount of other household names. While models like the Stratocaster and Telecaster have grown ubiquitous along the music landscape, much of that is synonymous with the fact that Fender hasn’t crafted a new body in over half a century — until now.
Introducing the Player Plus Meteora, an advanced addition to the manufacturer’s audiophile-geared Player Plus Series. Although the futuristic silhouette first came to shape in 2018 through a limited run, it is now officially the brand’s latest addition to its core model lineup, making it the first new permanent model Fender has released since 1958. For added trivia, this just so happens to be the same year that Hendrix bought his very first guitar, so it has been quite some time.
Many noteworthy elements compose the high-performance Meteora, including a sleek C-neck with softened edges, a 12” radius fretboard, and medium jumbo frets for rapid-fire playing. On top of that, it is rounded out with a set of Fender’s patented Fireball Humbucking Pickups to provide rich, hum-less tones, as well as locking tuners for seamless tuning stability.
Seeing as this is more or less an entirely new and distinct silhouette by Fender, the brand claims that it is essentially up for grabs for the next rock and roll icon, considering it has yet to be adopted by any world-class guitarist or bassist. With that in mind, who’s to say that it won’t be you? The Player Plus Meteora and Player Plus Active Meteora Bass are available in six gorgeous colors through Fender for $1,150 and $1,200, respectively.
